David Meiklejohn
Designer
David Meiklejohn brings a sense of tactility, materiality and craft to his practice of landscape architecture from his many years working as a potter and artist. He balances his artistic expression with a scientific rigor from years working in ecological sciences.
In addition to working in the field and in laboratory settings, David initially studied restoration ecology before changing course to fine art and ceramics. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics from the Metropolitan State University of Denver and a Master of Architecture from the University of British Columbia. David’s architectural thesis was based on the relationship between a project site and the myriad actors and participants that exist beyond the formal scope of a built project: time, plants, animals, future renovations, passing inhabitants, cleaners, plumbers, gardeners, and others. His thesis investigated how multiple project participants shape and influence how a landscape is used and perceived, and how designers can embrace the often subtle input that these participants can have on a design.
Originally from Colorado, David spends most of his free time in the mountains.
