Charlie Table
for Landscape Forms

The Charlie Table, also originally designed for Millennium Park, expresses the vitality of urban public spaces. In this painted steel table with connected benches GGN has created a place for resting and relaxation that re-imagines the traditional picnic table and embodies the movement of the city at the everyday pedestrian level. Charlie’s tabletop and seats are floating planes connected, lifted, and supported by the swooping lines of legs that dance on the ground below. The asymmetrical arrangement of the legs creates a dynamic experience as pedestrians move towards and around each table. Charlie’s oval form allows up to six people to sit comfortably on the benches and enhances social interaction as sitters face each other directly across the table. The open ends of the table can accommodate two additional people in separate chairs or provide wheelchair access. Variations in layout and rotation of the tables in a space enable the creation of playful and diverse environments.
