South Coast Plaza
Pedestrian Bridge & Garden

The Garden Terrace represents the transformation of the site over time, from arid land, to canal-irrigated agriculture, to present-day urban center of fashion and culture. Layered planes of stone represent the region's geology. Water bubbles from pools and follows a channel cut through the rock strata. The Bridge of Gardens emerges bird-like, from the glass face of South Coast Plaza West and lands on the solid, warm stone of the Garden Terrace. The Bridge is designed to elegantly connect two retail areas previously separated by an unpleasant parking lot. Its floating "wings" of Bougainvillea conceal the parking lot and transform the crossing into an experience of sky, color, and fantasy.
