Seattle's Fire Station 10 and Emergency Operation Center are located at the convergence of three downtown districts: Chinatown/International District, the Pioneer Square Neighborhood, and the Government District. The landscape design seeks to tie together these districts with the resolution of this steeply sloped site.
The landscape design sought to merge the bold order of the Fire Station's apparatus bays with a site-responsive variety of spaces and landforms. The orderly apparatus bay apron, the morphing South Washington Street "Pleats," and the iconic 5th Avenue landform augment the distinctions of each facade, in response to differing street conditions and views.
The heightened security concerns of the facilities informed a low carpet of plant material, which through the year will boast richly varied, green gradients that compliment glowing accent hues of orange and yellow.
